Paris can be full of surprises especially for non-Europeans; the way people dress and carry themselves around, the feeding habits, their party life…
Whenever you travel to Paris it is important to note the following tips just in case things don’t turn out the way you had expected :
Tip 1:Medication
If you are under any medication or are the type that needs to keep swallowing some pills, you need to carry your drugs from your country. In Paris drugs are not sold over the counter without prescription by a doctor which means you have to spend extra cash to cater for things like consultation fee.
Tip 2:Luggage Tags
French trains require that you tag all your baggage so to avoid trouble in a foreign country, just remember to carry them.
Tip 3:Clothing.
Paris weather is very unpredictable. Pack your light clothes if it is August but carry a warm jacket and a small umbrella to keep away the cold in case of weather changes.
If you are attending a concert or opera, the indoor heating is really strong. Wear normal clothes with a coat & scarf which you can take off once indoors. If not, with wool clothing, you’ll sweat for the next 2 hours.
If you have to go to places like a church, avoid shorts and short skirts;Parisians are quite conservative and you don’t want to attract too much attention.
You can also check the weather guide by month before packing your clothes.
Tip 4:Shoes.
Paris is a walking city, so you should not forget comfortable shoes during your trip. You can always hire a bike and cycle if you want so don’t forget your tennis shoes. However, you don’t have to wear tennis shoes all the time because you won’t find them common among Parisians. You can change to something more fancy if you are travelling by bus or metro.
